    ·           Checks whether your understanding is correct

    ·           Shows the student that you understand

    ·           Allows the student to clarify

 

    Requirements for Active Listening

    ·           Trust in student’s ability to solve the problem

    ·           Acceptance of student’s feelings

    ·           Understanding that feelings can be momentary

    ·           Desire to help, make time

    ·           Empathise but do not make it your problem

    ·      Real problem often comes to light later on

    ·           If you feel uncomfortable with the problem?

    ·           Respect privacy and confidentiality: do not gossip
